Many of these translations have been published in Buddhist periodicals during 1954-56 in Sri Lanka. Pali is an language with only one function, to preserve the Buddha?s teachings. It is quite similar to Sanskrit and share the feature that it is not spoken or used for anything else. The Pali Canon are about 1.600 years old, but we can be pretty confident that the scriptures have remained unaltered since then.
